Invisalign can effectively treat a wide range of conditions: crowded teeth, gaps and spacing, overbite, underbite, crossbite, open bite, overjet (protruding front teeth), deep bite, midline shifts, and orthodontic relapse. Modern Invisalign technology has expanded to handle many complex cases that previously required metal braces.

Invisalign may not be suitable for severe skeletal malocclusions, cases requiring significant vertical movement, or patients with active untreated gum disease or severe bone loss. It is also not recommended for very young children whose jaw is still developing. At Greenfield Dental, we will always give you an honest recommendation — and if braces are more appropriate for your case, we will tell you so.

Duration depends on the complexity of your case. Mild cases typically take 6–12 months. Moderate cases usually range from 12–18 months. More complex cases can take 18–24 months. Invisalign aligners must be worn 20 to 22 hours per day for effective treatment. You remove them only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth. Wearing them for less time will slow your treatment progress and may affect your final result. Consistency is the most important factor in Invisalign success.

Invisalign is significantly more comfortable than traditional metal braces. You may feel mild pressure or soreness for 1–3 days each time you switch to a new set of aligners — this is completely normal and a sign the aligners are working. There are no sharp wires or brackets that can cause cuts or irritation inside your mouth.

After your final aligner, you will be fitted with retainers to maintain your result. Teeth naturally want to shift back over time — retainers prevent this. We typically recommend wearing retainers every night indefinitely, or as directed by your doctor. Skipping retainers is the most common cause of orthodontic relapse after treatment.
